Safeguarding & Child Protection
Safeguarding Policy
As the people of South Molton Methodist Church, we are concerned with the wholeness of each individual within God’s purpose for everyone.
We seek to safeguard people of all ages and actively promote policies to ensure that
all are safeguarded in the day-
We accept and support the need for the Church and all its members to exercise a duty of care towards children and young people with whom we have contact, and to exercise that care to ensure that all are safe from harm when involved in Church activities whether on or off Church premises.
It is the responsibility of each one of us to protect children and young people from harm, including physical, sexual and emotional abuse, as well as neglect, and to encourage and support those working with them.
In accepting the need for this duty of care, the Church Council of South Molton Methodist Church acknowledges its responsibility to:
*
*

*
Provide training opportunities in child protection for those who work with children and young people in activities within the Church
Provide support and practical assistance to those faced with issues of safeguarding where action may need to be taken
Maintain and regularly review the safeguarding policy of this Church, to ensure that it is firmly based on the recommended policies of the Circuit and District, and to revise it if necessary, particularly in the light of recommendations made by the Circuit or District
Ensure that the safeguarding policy includes the need for clear procedures when recruiting and assessing volunteers and paid staff
Accept and apply the guidelines produced by the Plymouth & Exeter District in the document ‘Child Protection Policy and Supporting Information’
In order to meet this responsibility, the Church should avail itself of the District’s support, and in particular the District Child Protection Officer and Child Protection Team.
